Our first task was creating our call for candidates and church vision drawing from: team research; congregational survey results; consideration of the church’s future and of our community, region and state.
After meeting with church leadership groups and presenting our call for candidates and church vision, we shared it on parkviewfortpierce.com and at Baptist, conservative and evangelical seminaries nationwide.
We received 336 resumes from candidates who confirmed they wanted to be considered. The team took the summer of 2015 to individually and independently review, read and evaluate each applicant.
After finishing reviews in September, the team came together compiling our results. Our top candidate was the only one of 336 to receive the highest mark from each team member.
This was the result we had prayed for, and that God gave us!
We contacted our top candidate, and through prayer led by the Spirit, we determined to wait until after they took a planned international mission trip with their church in October 2015 to being working with him.
As a church, we prayed for this mission trip. The team waited for their return to start the process. We have been working with our candidate since Thanksgiving week when he visited Parkview to meet the team.
During our meeting both the candidate and his wife shared some of the unique ways God worked during their mission trip. That conversation also revealed to us how waiting was a God-led choice important to the process.
We are now currently in regular contact with our candidate sharing information as well as keeping in touch and “getting to know” one another as our conversation regarding a calling progresses.
The team is now discussing an opportunity for member(s) of our team, at his invitation, to visit the candidate’s church soon as well as a possible additional visit for our candidate to the Fort Pierce area.
At the beginning of the process we determined from research on conducting a pastor search that we would only deal with one candidate at time and to work with the candiadte to the fullest extent.
This is not a job hire, we are not looking at our “5 favorites” and picking one, or choosing who we think is right. We are pursing the man God has called for our church for this time in our ministry.
We as a search team are committed to the path God has placed us on. Our candidate reiterated to us in our most recent conversation this week that he and his wife are committed to the process to the end as well.
Our conversations, questions and discussion remain positive and move the process forward. There is no doubt in our mind that our candidate is fully seeking and pursing God’s will in this process.
When both parties are confident and clear that this is God’s call, we will prepare for a view to a call. If God moves in another direction, we will follow Him wherever he leads.
Through prayer and God's leading we believe we are exactly where God wants us to be, and pursing His directive will is our primary focus as a team.
The search team is incredibly thankful of how supportive the church has been during this entire process. The church's continued prayer is vital, and we are encouraged by how God is blessing and using the church.
During this time of waiting on the Lord we have seen:
